Designed for an international multi-generational family as their retreat in Asia, Villa Maraya is an idyllic tropical homestead that is majestically set on a dramatic oceanfront promontory with a stunning 120° view over Phang Nga Bay.

Recognising Phuket’s tropical climate, the design has responded with deep overhanging roofs providing shade andprotection from the rain. At the Entertainment Level, these roofs rise internally to high vaulted ceilings that define generous volumes. The surroundingglazed walls open out to walled gardens to the north and the dominant, horizon edged swimming pool that welcomes the sun every morning.

Designed as a collection of pavilions, the roof forms and rustic materials such as cedar shingles and rough-cut random granite contrast with the precision engineering of the steel structure and glass walls, rooting this dynamic and dramatic villa firmly into the nature of this precious and wonderful site.
